Crimson Trail and Waterfall Canyon

About a month ago, Hannah and I moved down to Ogden so I could start working before graduate school starts this fall. With orientation at my new job, unpacking, a couple building projects, and a trip up for my sister's baby showers, we have stayed pretty busy and haven't done too much hiking. Our first weekend here we were able to make it up to Logan and do some hiking with Dave and Kylee. We used to do all sorts of stuff with those two from camping, to motorcycle rides, to going on our first cruise with them. The last two years, Dave has been busy with graduate school in Utah while we were still living in Idaho. It was good to see them for longer than just dinner and great to be back outdoors with them! For their last weekend in Utah, and our first one, we hit up the Crimson Trail which is just outside of Logan, Utah.

After some decent elevation gain, the trail follows what is called the Great Wall. You can see how just off to the side of the trail, it drops off. What you can't see is that at places it is a good couple hundred feet drop off. So beautiful up there!

The spring growth was everywhere as we hiked.

Part of the creek that flows along the base of the mountains near the trail head.

It was a great hike and one that we will be doing again, hopefully this fall when the leaves are changing in the canyon.

Today, I had the day off and we were all caught up on life and moving in and catching up on chores so we decided to hit a trail not far from our house. I used my trusty google search to find hikes near Ogden and found one called Waterfall Canyon with the trailhead about 4 miles away from our house. A girl at work told me that it was pretty but I was a little sceptical with how close it was. The hike itself is only about a mile in, it does have some decent elevation gain and loose rocks to hike over.

When we got up there, the mist was spraying from the waterfall and felt great on our faces. We had both worked up quite the sweat on the hike up so the cool mist was refreshing. I busted out my camera and got it set up on a tripod and was ready to start taking some pictures. . . "No Card in Camera". . . DANG IT! It was still in the computer from the photos I took the other day and where I had my hiking bag, I didn't have a backup card with me. Luckily I had grabbed the GoPro as an after thought and had thought to put a card in it. Between that an my phone, we at least got a few pictures from the hike.

The view at the top makes the hike all worth it.

All in all, it was a great day. Rocky was exhausted when we got home and just wanted to sleep. But he usually just wanted to sleep when we get home. It is a hike we will be doing again, and next time I'll make sure to put a card in the camera!

Partner Workout Challenge

When Hannah and I got back from camping earlier today, I saw that my cousin had tagged us in this video on Facebook. At the time it had like 3,000,000 views on Facebook, it currently has over 6,500,000 views on there.    She posted this comment with the video. " For some reason, I can see you and  Brock  trying this pose. So if you do, please record it and share with me! hahaha! This is never not funny."    So we watched the video, had a good laugh, and decided why not try it? Better yet, why not try it and record it like my cousin Stacey requested? This was the result.    Now I'm not sure if she was thinking that we would look like the example couple that were shown rocking the move, (highly unlikely) or if she thought we would look a lot more like the couple trying to replicate the move (much more likely). Regardless, we had a little more luck than the couple in the top video on this page.     I don'...

A barndoor headboard

So I've been on a kick where I like making furniture for Hannah and I. We are saving up for graduate school so we don't have lots of extra money for furniture but we want to have some nice stuff. So I build it! Our most recent project was a headboard for our bed. Here is a picture of our room after I made some nightstands for it. We had just gotten new bedding and the lamps and I made the night stands with some plans on Ana White's site . Where we are renting, we can't really paint the walls or anything so a headboard it was! This plan I found on Shanty-2-Chic's site . They had taken a plan from Ana White's site and chunkified (not a real word, I know.) it up. I liked the chunkier look and this is how it turned out. We really like the look and the fact that we can take it with us when we move. Hopefully this will be the set up down the road in the guest bedroom but for now it is all ours!

Rustic Coffee Table

So if you remember, about a month ago, Hannah and I made our first DIY piece of furniture and made ourselves a couple of nightstands. You can read about that adventure  here . They turned out so well that this time I decided we would make ourselves a coffee table. We've needed one/wanted one since we got married three years ago and now with my new found love of furniture making, I decided I would just make one.    I found this picture on Pinterest.    I loved the look of the table, the stained top, the painted sides, the solid look of the table. I found the plans for it and turns out they were Ana White plans. I should have known. The biggest problem with this gorgeous table was that it was too big for our living room. Hannah and I are renting an apartment right now and while we could fit the full size table in our living room, I didn't want one that big as I tend to do lots of activities in the living room. (Work out, play with the...
